Jigokudani wild monkey park
Jigokudani, known as Hell valley, can be the one of the highlight destination on your journey. You might have seen them on travel brochures. More than 200 monkeys live and take hot spa in this wild conservation area. Their breeding season is spring and you may be able to see many baby monkeys in the summer time as well as you can enjoy snowy monkeys under the falling white snow..
How to get: Take bus to Kambayashi Onsen (15 minutes) from yudanaka station and walk on the direct path to monkey park (30 minutes) by the river. Or drive a car to the parking on the opposite bank (Road closed on winter time).
Shiga-highland ski resort
Known as the site of Winter Olympic Nagano 1998, Shiga kogen(highland) is rated one of the national famous ski resort. You can get there for half hour drive or bus ride. 21 slopes and 71 lifts available.
Shiga-highland
Enjoy trekking on many trails in the 2000m mountain class ranges. Known as blue lake, Onuma ike route is one of famous trekking destination. You can reach most of trekking start point within 1 hour from Hotel Tsubakino.
Volcano Shirane
Known as 2160m and active volcano, you can see the emerald-coloured crater lake on the summit of the mountain. You can reach there from the final bus stop by direct bus from Yudanaka station. (80 minutes ride) Or 1 hour drive a car.
